A Letter from the President
WGTE is poised to take advantage of rapidly advancing technological changes and increased resources available in our new facility. A completely new world of expanded service opportunities has been opened for us, from educational advances to additional community outreach initiatives, to new services and local production options. The coming years are going to be quite challenging for our organization, as we seek to expand our financial support base and increase our valuable services to Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. We are, however, well prepared to meet these challenges and capitalize on the opportunities we have before us.
In the future as we deliver new services to the community, television, radio and the internet will need to be used in more creative and innovative ways to meet our educational mission. During the past several years, we have sought new, non-traditional (i.e. non-broadcast focused) methods to advance our mission. By becoming involved directly in the learning process for students of all ages, we have developed partnerships with others, secured state, federal and foundation funding to provide a host of educational services to preschool children, K-12 students, and adults. These efforts have allowed us not only to maintain our mission but also to expand it in new ways. Additionally, the financial support realized from these efforts will increasingly make up for the loss of revenue from other sources. I believe this will be our future.
This new educational model will capitalize on the availability and capabilities of our digital broadcasting and internet technology and their convergence with the market’s need for educational services. Our new services will run the gamut from digital programming, to datacasting, real-time and asynchronous learning, interactive video and other opportunities. We will partner, just as we have started, with multiple sectors of the community such as schools, colleges, universities, day care and health care providers and others to meet the growing need for formal and informal life-long learning. These partnerships will not only be local but can extend statewide, and, possibly, nationally. WGTE will be open to cooperation, collaboration, and even more ways to provide service to our communities.
We are blessed to live in an exciting time of truly great possibilities for WGTE and learners of all ages. We look forward to your support, your cooperation, your collaboration, and your input as we strive to do the best for the greater good of everyone we touch. We only ask that you be more involved, be more engaged and take an active part with us and others to have a positive impact in the lives of everyone in our community.
