WGTE is a recognized leader in Ohio Educational Technology services and has led the way on many state-wide, inquiry-based initiatives. These innovative projects have touched the lives of over 100,000 students across the state. Thousands of educators have attested to the high quality of these and other services offered by the Educational Resource Center of WGTE.

Career Pathways

The WGTE Educational Resource Center is proud to present these new curriculum-based projects designed to meet students' career exploration needs. Construction Career Investigation and Engineering Career Pathway are aligned to Ohio Standards and offer classroom connections in addition to on-site interviews with professionals to spotlight educational applications to various professions and skilled trades.

Blueprints, square footage, conversions…oh my! Build more than a yellow brick road with this multi-media curriculum for 6th – 10th grade classrooms. Whether you introduce a variety of career paths to your students, or explore Industrial Technology on a deeper level, these fourteen career specific modules (i.e. electricians, carpenters, masons, etc.) will meet your instructional needs. CCI includes video modules, a curriculum binder with detailed educator guides and an interactive website…so all teachers walk away with classroom-ready teaching tools and resources.

Educators say that the CCI workshop is “ Fun, Worthwhile & Informative” . Recommended classroom use for this curriculum includes:

  • Career Exploration/Awareness
  • Integration into Construction Trade Curriculum
  • Encouragement Tool

Teacher workshops are offered at WGTE (click here for upcoming workshop dates) or we would be happy to travel to your district and present this curriculum to interested educators. To learn more about this program or to schedule a training session at your school, contact Erin DeSilva erin_desilva@wgte.org 419-380-4633 .

CCI is brought to you by a partnership between WGTE and the Alliance of Construction Professionals.

Hunting for Everyday History

In 2003 WGTE Public Broadcasting in Toledo launched Hunting for Everyday History, a multimedia Ohio history program designed for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Hunting for Everyday History takes history out of the textbook and puts it into the hands of students, where it becomes a living treasure. The standards-based curriculum package includes lesson plans, transparencies, an interactive web site where students can post digital photos and descriptions of their "finds", and a series of video field trips that prepare students to hunt in their communities for the artifacts of daily living that helped shape life in Ohio during the past 200 years.

If you would like more information about participating in Hunting for Everyday History, please contact the WGTE Educational Resource Center at erc@wgte.org

Rest Of Your Brain

The Rest of Your Brain was produced by WGTE-TV, Toledo; WVIZ/PBS IDEASTREAM, Cleveland; and ThinkTV, Dayton. This project offers fifth grade students an opportunity to approach core academic requirements from a new angle, to see the arts connections that exist between writing, math and science, and to deepen their understanding of the concepts they encounter in the classroom and the textbook. It does this by exposing students to authentic experiences with the arts with lessons and activities that revolve around an exciting theme - U.S. "Pathbreakers" in American history. Another feature of this program is The Rest of Your Brain web site, a virtual museum that allows students to display the things they have created and discovered during their study of U.S. Pathbreakers. There is also an extensive professional development side to this web site, including access to a unique service known as The Resource Finders 1 an on-demand, curriculum assistance service.

Components: Teachers manual, website, 3 live, interactive television broadcasts, and professional development workshops.

Excavating With Technology

Excavating with Technology was a cooperative venture of the Toledo Public Schools, WGTE Public Broadcasting, and Springfield Local Schools. Made possible through a grant from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, it offered elementary students the opportunity to broaden their learning environments and make connections between their studies and experiences through the integration of distance learning technology with their regular study of archaeology.

Students and teachers involved in the project began using this website throughout the 2000-01 school year to share their experiences and knowledge with others.
