Fate of a River: Revisited is the remake of a 1965 film, Fate of a River: Apathy or Action produced by the Junior League of Toledo depicting the many water quality pollution problems in the Maumee River watershed. Fate of a River: Apathy or Action was shown to more than 70,000 people in the Toledo area in the late 1960s. This film made such an impact that Junior League members testified at state and federal water quality hearings that eventually led to the Clean Water Act.

Many water quality issues have changed since 1965. Industries are now regulated if they want to discharge into the river and they must meet certain water quality standards. Most cities, counties and villages now have an adequate wastewater treatment system in place. In the 1960s, those communities that treated their sewage did not treat it to the secondary or tertiary level as they do now.

Fate of a River: Revisited provides a half-hour glimpse into water quality problems years before the Clean Water Act, demonstrates the many improvement efforts that have taken place since then, and shares new challenges that each of the 1.7 million people living in the watershed can do to continue to improve water quality.
