Tom Paine came to WGTE-FM in 1975 from WFCR, Five College Radio in Amherst, Massachusetts. As WGTE-FM’s first station manager, Tom and his staff put the new classical music service on the air in May, 1976. He helped gather support in the Lima, Defiance and Bryan communities to establish WGLE, WGDE and WGBE.

Tom grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts, southeast of Boston, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While working as an announcer at the university station he met his wife Gwen, who was inspired by his voice on the radio to arrange an introduction. Tom’s long-time passions are passenger liners, horses and Italian opera, in no particular order.
