The San Francisco Chronicle calls David Shifrin's playing "a revelation in just how beautifully the clarinet can be played." An Avery Fisher Prize winner, Mr. Shifrin is in constant demand as an orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.

Orchestras with whom he has performed include the Dallas, Seattle, Houston, Detroit and Milwaukee symphonies and the Philadelphia and Minnesota orchestras, as well as orchestras throughout Europe and Asia. In addition, Mr. Shifrin has served as principal clarinetist with the American Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others. He has received critical acclaim as a recitalist, appearing at such a venues as Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with artists such as the Emerson String Quartet and pianists André Watts and Emanuel Ax.

Mr. Shifrin's recordings continue to garner praise as well as awards. He has received three Grammy nominations, and his recording of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra was named Record of the Year by Stereo Review.
Mr. Shifrin was appointed Artistic Director of Chamber Music Northwest in 1981 and served as Artistic Director of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center from 1992 to 2004.

Currently a professor of music at Yale University, Mr. Shifrin has also served on the faculties of The Juilliard School, the University of Southern California, the University of Michigan, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the University of Hawaii.
