Exploring Integrative Medicine
On Wednesday, March 22, WGTE Public Broadcasting hosted an educational community outreach about integrative and complementary medicine. Exploring Integrative Medicine was held in conjunction with the WGTE TV broadcast premiere of "The New Medicine." Hosted by the late Dana Reeve, the program explores the growing research in support of the mind-body connection and the need to treat the whole person, not just an illness in isolation.
The seminar featured presentations by the following experts:
- Integrative Medicine Overview: Mounir Elkatib, M.D.
- Acupuncture: Lora Thaxton, M.D.
- Biofeedback: Angele McGrady, Ph.D.
- Healing Touch: Deb Reis, RN
- Massage Therapy: Tina Ferner, LMT, RD; Kelly Brooks, RN, BSN; and Becki Scott
- Traditional vs. Integrative Medicine: Ron Shapiro, M.D., Ph.D., LLC
There were also health demonstrations on healing touch, massage therapy, Reiki, yoga, and acupuncture that were held in conjunction with the presentations.
If you are interested in any of these therapies, please reference our Resource Guide below for information about area practitioners of integrative and alternative medicine.
