Friday, December 10 at 9:30 p.m.
This holiday season, with unemployment hovering around 10 percent, and many neighbors in dire financial straits, Deadline NOW welcomes Ken Leslie, the Founder of 1Matters, and Jim Caldwell, President and CEO of the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank is celebrating its 26th anniversary in service to Northwest Ohio. Since its founding in 1984, it has distributed more than 70 million pounds of food and grocery products to those in need. The Food Bank currently serves more than 300 non-profit member agencies in eight counties in Northwest Ohio including Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Wood and Williams.
The mission of 1Matters is to return individuals and families with children to domestic autonomy through the creation and funding of self-sustaining and accountable programs which provide financial autonomy. 1Matters uses the numeral 1 because it signifies an individual not a statistic. On any given night 640,000 Americans, who have lost domestic autonomy, are living on the streets, in shelters, or in cars.

Friday, November 12, 2010
Since World War II, most of America's older manufacturing cities have gradually declined in both people and wealth. But perhaps none have been harder hit than Detroit. Free Press reporter John Gallagher may have some ideas. His new book, Reimagining Detroit: Opportunities for Redefining an American City, showcases the innovative community-building work happening in the city and focuses on what can be done to make Detroit leaner, greener, and more economically self-sufficient.
Joining Mr. Gallagher on this week's program is Professor Daniel Hammel, an associate professor in the department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toledo. He is an expert on what happens inside America's cities, especially when it comes to housing.
