National Christmas Tree Lighting 2012

Saturday, December 15 at 8:00 p.m.

Now in its 90th year, a time-honored holiday tradition continues this season with the illumination of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse just south of the White House.

Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, the 60-minute special will feature performances by James Taylor, Kenny "Baby-face" Edmonds, Colbie Cailat and Phillip Phillips, among others. The evening's festivities will be capped off by the ceremonial lighting of the National Christmas Tree by a very special guest!

With the White House in the background, the National Christmas Tree and 56 smaller trees - one for each state, five territories, and the District of Columbia - form the "Christmas Pathway of Peace," which serves as the focal point of the event.
