Sonographer Career Module
As one of many careers in the medical field, a Sonographer requires education and training in science, technology and mathematics. A sonographer uses sonic waves to capture images of the internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis and treatment of medical problems. Utilizing specialized ultrasound equipment, the sonographer takes readings of the appropriate areas as requested by a physician. These images are then sent to a physician for interpretation. Sonographers work in a variety of settings including hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, and physician offices. Additionally, sonographers may assist with surgeries or utilized in emergency rooms for imaging procedures of trauma patients who need immediate diagnoses and medical treatment.
