At bottom right: World War II veteran and distinguished actor Charles Durning was a 21-year old infantryman when he landed on Omaha Beach in the D-Day invasion. The only man in his company to survive, he was wounded three times and received three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for his wartime valor. The "National Memorial Day Concert" will feature a tribute to Durning, who died last December.
