The mission of the Consumer Protection Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office is to protect the interests of Ohio consumers through the enforcement of consumer laws, complaint mediation, consumer and business education, and litigation.
Consumer protection efforts at the state, multi-state and federal level have led to landmark settlements against state and national corporations and millions of dollars in civil penalties and restitution for Ohioans.
In 2008, the Consumer Protection Section received more than 24,000 consumer complaints and inquiries, opened 364 investigations, and initiated 35 lawsuits for various unfair, deceptive and unconscionable business practices. The section took 49 judgments and Assurances of Voluntary Compliance totaling more than $14 million in consumer restitution, civil penalties, costs, and other relief.
