For more than thirty years, Ohio provided necessary financial support for its educational television and radio stations. Let your elected state legislators know that you value WGTE Public Media and Ohio's public television and radio system. Show your support and urge them to maintain funding for public broadcasting, the State's best option for lifelong learning for all its citizens.
Here are some sample e-mail and phone statements that you can share:
- If you are one of the 500,000 plus people (30% of the area's population) who tune weekly to WGTE TV, let them know that you value greatly WGTE's local production (160 plus programs annually for TV, online and classroom use ) and PBS programs - local story telling, documentaries, public affairs and educational programs are important!
- If you are one of 90,000 radio listeners who tune in weekly to one of our four radio stations, WGTE FM, WGLE, WGBE, and WGDE, let them know that arts and cultural programming matter.
- If you believe that our youngest citizens should be able to read when they start school (7,000 plus young children annually improve their reading skills as a result of their caregivers and parents participating in WGTE's workshops), let them know that we cannot abandon our investment in early learning - the foundation for K-12 success.
- If you want K-12 teachers and students to perform at their highest levels, let them know that you support WGTE's Educational Resource Center, which annually provides professional development training to more than 1,700 teachers who serve nearly 50,000 students - we make better teachers and help students achieve.
- If you care about online access via Knowledge Stream to locally delivered presentations and access to Toledo City Council and Toledo Public School Board meetings, let them know that anytime, anyplace access to knowledge and information is necessary.
- If you support WGTE's efforts to bring the community together around issues of local importance (annually more than 15 public events are held concerning health, education, and other issues such as the mortgage crisis), let them know the importance of WGTE as the community's neutral convener and the facilitator to get things done.
