Q. Is it safe to use my credit card on wgte.org?
A. WGTE uses the best encryption technology and software available to secure online transactions. The personal and financial information given to us, including credit card number, name and addresses, are encrypted so it cannot be read as it travels over the internet.

Q. Why should I become a member of WGTE Public Media?
A. Unlike commercial and cable television and radio stations that are profit-driven, WGTE is a mission-driven, non-profit organization. WGTE does not exist to serve advertisers, businesses or the commercial marketplace – it exists solely to serve the citizens of our community by providing a diverse array of quality programs, educational and public services for people of all ages and walks of life.

Q. Why are the thank you gifts WGTE offers so expensive? Why can’t you sell these items at a regular retail price?
A. As a public television station, WGTE relies on community support for 30% of our funding. The videos, compact discs, books or other items seen during our on-air fundraising campaigns are intended as a “thank-you” for supporting the station with a donation, not as a retail transaction. When we encourage viewers or listeners to become members of the station, we suggest several pledge levels and we offer the DVDs, compact discs or packages as an incentive to contribute at that level. These items allow us to give members a tangible “thank-you” for their donation in support of our programming.

Q. How long will it take to receive my thank-you gift?
A. On average, you will receive your thank you gift six to eight weeks after 25% of your membership has been paid. We order our gifts once a pledge period is over, so that we order the correct number of gifts. We order after a drive so that we do not waste money. We do make every effort to mail out gifts the day they arrive in our office.

Q. I just sent in my renewal check. Why did I receive another renewal letter?
A. To save money for the high-quality programs you expect from WGTE, we send renewal letters at the cheapest postage rate possible. Therefore, it may take a little longer for a renewal letter to get to you. As a result, your check and our letter may have crossed in the mail. Please ignore the reminder and thank you!

Q. Why are you sending me renewal notices when I still have a few months left on my membership?
A. We make every effort to alert you to the pending expiration of your membership because member dollars account for more than 30% of our operating budget. And your renewal is important for to us. If you renew early, you will still receive a full 12-month membership, and we will extend the benefits you are entitled to for the full 12-months.

Q. How do I know if my company has a matching gift program?
A. Contact your Human Resources office. Many employers share your commitment to public broadcasting and will show it by doubling your support. For a list of matching gift companies, please contact the WGTE membership office at 419-380-4641.

Q. Is my contribution tax-deductible?
A. WGTE Public Media is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. Your contribution to the stations is fully tax-deductible minus the fair-market value of any gifts you receive. For tax purposes, if your contributions for the year total more than $75.00, we will send you a statement which will include the total amount contributed as well as the fair-market value of any gifts that you received.
