Hi, my name is Melissa Chi. I'm a senior at The University of Toledo majoring in communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in economics. I'm originally from Malaysia, where my family still resides. Besides being a Plugged-In reporter, I'm also the news editor at The Independent Collegian, UT's student paper. Other than taking classes and being a reporter, I'm also a member of UT's Wilderness Expedition Club [WEX] where fun activities such as rock climbing, hiking and camping are organized. I spent the fall semester of 2007 in Washington D.C. as a reporter for Talk Radio News Services and learned that journalism is truly my passion, in any form of media. Currently, I'm also a reporter for, a Web site featuring college news from across the country, affiliated with Fox News, where I shoot, write and edit video packages to be broadcasted online. Upon graduation, I'm considering two routes. The first, the journalism graduate program with Reuters, a two-year program located in Europe. Or, find a reporting job in the United States. Wherever the road takes me, my experiences gained here will take me far in life. I know I have truly lived, after I've seen and been to every corner of the world, tell their stories to the people on the other side.

I was adopted from Pietra Neamt, Romania, when I was five years old from a family in Powell Ohio, which is about 20 minutes away from downtown Columbus, GO BUCKS! I have two sisters and 3 brothers! I grew up in Powell, attending Olentangy School District until I moved  to the Glass City, where I am completing my last semester at The University of Toledo. I'm majoring in Broadcast Journalism, which is no surprise because when I was younger, I used to pretend I was a news anchor. Apart from being a college student,  I've worked for 13ABC as an editor and behind the scenes for BCSN for shows such as Sports Rap and Under the Lights. This summer I was honored to be asked to shoot a promotional commercial representing UT.  That was an awesome experience!  I have reported/anchored in news, sports and weather for the UT Campus News called "Rocket Report" and currently produce UT :10 NEWS.  Even though I know I'll be starting off small, I hope to one day be sitting next to Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Ann Curry and Al Roker! I know it sounds like a big dream...but isn't that what you're supposed to do?! :)

  • Views: 179 Plugged-In Reporter | Wesley Mathern

Hi, my name is Wesley Mathern. I'm a Junior at the University of Toledo, and my major is marketing. After I graduate, I plan on going to grad school for my MBA. After the post-graduate degree, it's anybody's guess. Plugged-In marks my first foray into the world of collegiate extra-curricular activities, but I spent most of my time throughout high school in Findlay, Ohio, working on the news show, 2AToday. Since then I've spent three years away from the field working on my studies and spending time with my family and friends. In my free time I enjoy a well-written book or two and frequent trips to the cinema.
