  • TPS: PreSchool Education Programs

Early intervention leads to students who are ready to learn by the time they enter the classroom.  Toledo Public Schools' preschool programs teach children social and emotional growth, literacy skills and peer modeling. Special needs students get the support they need to excel at the same level of their peers in elementary school.

  • TPS: Athletics and After School Programs

Toledo Public Schools is working to rebuild athletic programs to provide energy, pride and physical fitness for young people.  Extra curricular activities like sports, visual arts and music can help students learn unique skills that further their ability to communicate, apply to colleges and round out their skills for life.

  • TPS: Career Tech Programs

Toledo Public Schools has over 50 Career and technical education programs within the school system. These programs teach young people specific skills while increasing confidence, general knowledge and interactive communication skills.  Programs include: Radio and TV Production, Electronics, Food Service and the DECA program.

  • TPS: STEM Education

Today's students need to have competency in math and science in order to work in many fields that will be available to them upon graduation.  The Toledo Technology Academy helps young people find out what areas of study are right for them through a variety of programs including: engineering, natural sciences and aviation.

  • TPS: Mentoring Programs

Mentoring is very important for the positive development of young people.  Mentoring happens between young people and good adult role models, as well as peer-to-peer support.  Today's kids have all the technological tools to communicate, yet many have poor communication skills.  Mentoring can make a difference in self confidence, literacy skills and graduation rates.

  • TPS: High School Transformation Plan

Once a child fails a class and falls behind, they are not likely to catch up in their educational experience.  They stop coming to school and then completely drop out.  TPS is working to change this dynamic through "credit recovery," a unique on-line program that also uses teacher mentors. Effective programs also include the "early warning system," graduation coaches through AmeriCorps and distance learning labs.

  • TPS: Elementary Transformation Plan

Conversion to a K-8th Grade system for the 41 schools in the Toledo Public Schools System strengthens communities and gives parents many choices.  Families get to know the teachers and adminstrators leading to higher rates of learning and more interaction and parent involvement.
