The life of Ohio's native son and America's hero is explored.
"John Glenn: A Life of Service" chronicles the pursuits of John Glenn, born in Ohio, who has dedicated himself to a life of duty and public service. Using archival footage and interviews with Senator Glenn, lawmakers, journalists and historians, the documentary is an inspiring look at Glenn’s incredible career.
From a war pilot to being the first American to orbit the Earth to his days in the Senate – and at 77 years of age becoming the oldest person to go into space – the viewer is transported to the pivotal moments in John Glenn’s life when he put country before self.
Ben Bays, Executive Producer for the documentary, found the year that he was involved in development and production to be one of the most gratifying of his career. "Sitting down and talking with Senator Glenn was certainly the highlight,” said Bays. “He could deftly transition from a thousand-foot view of the current political system, to the nuts and bolts of how an Atlas rocket functioned. You could see at once both the Senator and the scientist co-existing and informing his philosophy."
