WGTE Public Media Announces New Podcast

Toledo, Ohio - WGTE Public Media in partnership with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra is releasing a new radio podcast series beginning September 13 at 3:30 p.m.. Toledo SymphonyLab™ is a weekly half hour, behind-the-scenes look at the world of classical music.

Every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., host Brad Cresswell and panelists Zak Vassar, President and CEO of the Toledo Symphony and Merwin Siu, Artistic Administrator and Principal Second Violin from TSO will explore a theme inspired by a concert, event or guest artist from the symphony's season. Special appearances from guest soloists, members of the TSO and TSO Music Director Alain Trudel will round out the episodes.
“This is an important educational opportunity for the Toledo Symphony. The program, Toledo SymphonyLab, will air weekly on WGTE and be available for download as a podcast. This program will be informative but also casual. We want Toledo SymphonyLab to be a place for our audiences to learn about great music but also ask questions about our art form and hear the voices of our talented musicians. The goal is to make classical music more accessible and less intimidating, and I think Toledo SymphonyLab is a great way to do that. I’m just so grateful to the Estate of Barbara Garwood and her family for making this a possibility for us,” said Zak Vassar, President and CEO of the Toledo Symphony.
The public is encouraged to take part by leaving their comments and questions via voicemail at the Toledo Symphony Q&A phone line at (419) 418-0012. This audio will be incorporated into future episodes, including one entitled "Everything You Always Wanted To Know About the Symphony But Were Afraid To Ask."
The podcast will be broadcast on WGTE FM 91.3 in Toledo, WGLE FM 90.7 in Lima, WGBE FM 90.9 in Bryan and WGDE FM 91.9 in Defiance and will be streamed online for free at www.wgte.org/lab. In addition, the podcast will be made available on iTunes.

Formed in 1943 as The Friends of Music and incorporated in 1951 as the Toledo Orchestra Association, Inc., the Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) has grown from a core group of twenty-two part-time musicians to a regional orchestra that employs sixty-five professional musicians who consider the Toledo Symphony their primary employer, as well as numerous extra players annually as repertoire demands.
The Toledo Symphony reaches more than 260,000 individuals annually through performances and education programs. The series concerts (Classics, Pops, Chamber, Mozart & More, and Family Series) are the critical underpinning of the orchestra’s artistic mission and regularly draw people from 135 postal zip codes. Additionally, Music Under the Stars, a free summer band concert series, is held annually at the Toledo Zoo. Education programs, student performances, and community concerts are held in schools, neighborhood churches, performing arts centers, and community facilities throughout the region; many are offered at no charge or provided at a reduced fee to help expand participation.
