WGTE to recognize Ann Anderson Stranahan for her decades of service to public media in the Toledo area
TOLEDO, OHIO – April 4, 2025 – WGTE Public Media will dedicate the large studio to Ann Anderson Stranahan at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, on the lawn of 1270 S. Detroit Ave Toledo, OH 43614. The community is invited to celebrate Ann Stranahan’s contributions to WGTE Public Media.
The ceremony will include a short program, a formal unveiling of the building name, followed by a small reception and opportunity to celebrate this significant milestone.
“As one of the founders of WGTE – Channel 30, Ann Stranahan deeply understood the value of public broadcasting. Her passion and dedication were evident in her role as a board chair through her creative contributions to writing and producing documentaries alongside the staff. Naming the center in her honor is a tribute to her vision and a lasting reminder of the values we uphold in our community,” states Ray Miller, Director of Content and Creative Services.
In 1968, Anderson Stranahan began her term on the WGTE Board, became Vice President in 1971, and President in 1972. In 1974, she was elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) where she chaired the Education and Nominating committees for ten years. Anderson Stranahan was an advocate for Toledo, leaving behind a legacy of leadership in cultural and educational institutions, sought after for her intelligence and effectiveness.
