Not finishing high school does not erase the skills and experience you have already developed.

In this episode of On the Job: Toledo Region, host Sara Swisher talks with Drew from Penta Aspire about the paths available to adults who want to earn a high school equivalency credential and create new career opportunities.

FOCUSING ON WHERE YOU WANT TO GO

People leave school for many different reasons. Some need to support their families. Others experience anxiety, bullying or difficulty succeeding in a traditional classroom.

Drew explains that the most important question is not why someone left. It is where that person wants to go next.

YOU ALREADY HAVE VALUABLE SKILLS

Adults develop useful workplace skills through jobs, family responsibilities and everyday life.

Communication, dependability, customer service, problem-solving and leadership all have value. Earning a diploma or GED can help turn those existing abilities into new education and career opportunities.

WHAT A GED CAN UNLOCK

A high school equivalency credential can help someone qualify for college programs, technical training, apprenticeships, promotions and career paths that may not otherwise be available.

The amount of time needed to earn a GED depends on each person’s starting point, schedule and individual circumstances.

SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE

WorkOhio can help connect people with education programs and resources designed to address those barriers.
