WGTE Public Media’s commitment to local programming continues with the March premieres of two programs, both of which spotlight local musical talent. Future Classics and Sessions present a wide spectrum of Northwest Ohio’s musical talent in a digital-first setting, with both series now available on the WGTE website.
Future Classics presents some of the area’s brightest young classical musicians in performance and in conversation. Produced in conjunction with the Toledo Symphony School of Music, new episodes are being presented as a monthly web series, available for viewing on demand on our website, and new episodes are aired the first Friday of every month at 2:00 p.m. on WGTE FM 91.
“We are always happy to spotlight young classical musicians,” said WGTE FM 91 Radio Station Manager Brad Cresswell, “Future Classics gives us an opportunity to present some of the finest players in the region and get their perspectives as young people interacting with the pieces they’re playing and with classical music in general.”
Sessions celebrates the creativity and diversity of Northwest Ohio’s music scene by spotlighting local artists and bands performing their own original songs. Sessions puts a local spin on programs such as NPR's Tiny Desk and PBS's Austin City Limits. Performances were filmed at Danny’s in Rossford and can be seen on our website and on YouTube.
“There is such a wealth of talent in this area, and we are very excited to present it through Sessions,” said Shane Potgieter, Content and Creative Services Officer at WGTE. “So far with Sessions, we’ve presented an astonishing range of styles, from hard rock to acoustic folk to polka. We are especially pleased to be able to present this programming in a digital-first format, so people can access these performances on demand.”
