Ged Connection

Poetry

(visit website)

This episode of GED Connection deals with Poetry. On the GED test you'll be asked to read one poem and answer questions about meaning and form. It's important to examine what the poet is saying and how he or she uses language to say it. Questions that you can ask yourself that will help are: What is the poem about? How does it make me feel? What is the tone of the poem? Who is speaking and from what perspective? What stands out? Throughout the program teachers and students read different types of poems aloud. Poets and poetry teachers stress the importance of reading a poem aloud to hear the rhyme and rhythm. They go over how poems are structured and how poets use words, rhythm, and rhyme to create images and express feelings. The host encouages the GED student to read a lot of different poems to prepare for this portion of the test.
